Round 6 - Fraser Park FC 0 - Mounties 0

On a cool and dry night, Fraser Park hosted Mounties in a round 6 match.

After a slow first half in which neither team threatened to score, it was Fraser Park who took the game to a new level

and created the better chances after the break.

As David Perkovic explained “We had a number of half chances but we struggled to find that final pass, in the last third. But having said that, there are definitely plenty of positives to come out of the game. We battled for the full ninety minutes, which we haven’t always done this year and we also kept our first clean sheet of the season.”

As far as the season goes so far, there is plenty to like, too.

“If you asked at the start of the year, that we would only have lost one game in six, I would have taken that. But we have high expectations of where we want to go and how we want to play, and we are trying to meet those expectations. It is not just about results, and if we concentrate on how we play and get that right, the results will look after themselves”.

So after a sluggish scoreless draw, the boys from Fraser Park travel to Spirit FC on Mother's Day.

Super League - Fraser Park v Macarthur Rams

Fraser Park moved equal top in Super League with a 1-1 draw in a rescheduled round one fixture against Macarthur Rams last Thursday night, in front of an excellent crowd.

This was a game which delivered one of the best individual goals, seen from any player at Fraser Park, for many years. It started with a Fraser Park defender clearing a corner from Macarthur, and in a swift counter attack Wassim Hijazi received the ball midway inside his own half. He ran past several defenders before unleashing a swerving shot from approximately 30m. The Rams keeper could only look on as the ball hit the back of the net.

The goal was well deserved after the team captain Paulo Oliveira had an earlier penalty attempt saved by the Macarthur goalkeeper.

Macarthur Rams had gone into an early lead after just three minutes, Stefan Donevski getting his second goal of the season, when he delicately chipped Michael Frost. Donevski was always dangerous, and was an ongoing threat to the Fraser Park defence.

In the second half, chances for both teams were few. Although Michael Frost was again at his best when he denied Macarthur two clear cut chances.

The 1-1 draw keeps both sides undefeated with Fraser Park now second on the table, with an away game scheduled against Sydney University next weekend.

UNDER 13'S LOST 2-6

After promising start where Fraser scored first and dominated possession, they could have gone 2--0 up a close miss. Granville hit back with 2 quick goals just before the half-time break to go in 2-1 up. Goals from Liam Gasowski and Alex Small.

In the second half Fraser dropped intensity and Granville lifted and in the end were too strong winning comfortably by 6-2.

UNDER 14'S LOST 3-1

At half-time with scores at 1-1 it was a very even game. Fraser goal scored by Peter Skanaj was a great team goal.

Both teams pushed for a winner and it came to Granville with some defensive mistakes being punished by Granville striker who scored a double late to allow Granville to take all 3 points.

UNDER 15'S WON 3-0

This squad continues to improve and controlled majority of the match which is reflected by the score line. Another clean sheet for this team which would please the coaching staff.

UNDER 16's WON 3-2

Game which was played in low tempo which was surprising as both teams have plenty of talent, maybe the heat had something to do with it.

Fraser always looked like they would win this match comfortably, but lapses allowed Granville back into the match.

Goals came from Andrew De Brito from Penalty spot, Anthony Vallelonga and a piece of individual brilliance from Pietro Nigro to score the match winner.

UNDER 18's WON 1-0

Good performance from a team that had 3 players missing through injury and sickness. This meant few changes to starting 11, but the changes have little impact as this team played very well and kept Granville who were early favourites for the title from creating little to no chances.

Goal was scored by Eric Martinez and could have scored another just before half time. but his chip over the keeper also beat the crossbar.

Fraser continued to dominate but couldn't put the issue beyond doubt with several misses keeping the score at 1-0 and making the last 10 minutes a nervous affair for supporters and coaching staff.

Well done to all teams and now to round 4 against very strong Sydney Uni team after Easter.

Super League - Round 2 Fraser Park FC vs Granville

On a warm and dry night, Fraser Park claimed their second win from two games, overcoming Granville Rage 3-1 at home to go a clear second in the table. While the performance may not have been as impressive as their second half effort last week against St. George, there is no doubt that the three points were well earned.

Kevin Oliveira scored a superb volley from a Danny Wilson cross to put Fraser Park up midway through the first half. This was shortly followed by the first half send off of Granville’s captain Daniel Carrozza, following a studs up challenge on Carlo Musumeci. This actually inspired Granville who seemed to take control of the match for a long period. And it wasn’t long before they equalised with Amir Dizdaric picking up a rebound after a Michael Frost save.

Well into the second half, and it was Danny Wilson involved again, as he headed Fraser Park back in front within a couple of minutes of Granville’s equaliser. And it was young Kevin Oliveira the provider this time.

Then to cap off a great night, Kevin Oliveira scored late on with a fine solo run, catching Granville on the counter attack, finishing the move with a massive shot which beat the keep at the near post.

“It was a tough, physical affair”, said David Perkovic. “We knew that Granville would want to respond after last week’s heavy loss and with a few ex Granville faces in the Fraser squad, it was always going to be tight”.

“And credit to Granville. They really dug deep after the send off and they certainly gave it their best shot. Some of their free kicks on the edge of the box caused concern especially with their height”.

The six points from six is welcomed at Fraser although Perkovic is not getting carried away.

“We want to try and make Fraser Park a fortress and it is working so far. We realise that both our games have been at home and we have had a bit of an advantage in that sense, and things can change very quickly. Come the second half of the season, we will have three away in a row and that can make a difference”.

“But it is better to be two from two now, and the six points is what we wanted”.

Fraser Park will host Macarthur Rams on Thursday night at 7pm, in their re-arranged round one match.

Super League - Fraser Park 3 v St George 2

A hatrick to Wassim Hijazi was the highlight of Fraser Park’s win over St George as the home side took all three points in a 3-2 win.

With the fixtures being reversed on Friday due to floodlight difficulties at St George Stadium, it was Fraser Park who hit the ground running, Hijazi getting on the scoresheet as early as the first minute. His pace caught out the Saints defence, though Hijazi still had some work to do, scoring from a tight angle.

St George recovered and worked towards an equaliser, and though Fraser Park keeper Michael Frost denied Sam Messam once, the tall striker drew the Saints level with a strong drive under Frost, just after the half hour.

But ten minutes after the break, Hijazi put Fraser ahead for the second time, shooting across Daniel Nash into the far corner.

Within ten minutes it was 3-1, Hijazi again to the fore, slamming in from close range.

The points looked safe, and despite a very late goal to Marwan Aman, a long range strike over Frost, it was Fraser Park who claimed a well earned victory.

“It was a tough win”, stated Fraser Park’s David Perkovic, “but we made it tough on ourselves too, with that late goal. We really invited the pressure onto ourselves at the end.

“St George were probably in a better situation than us, with that first game under their belts. But we were very hungry to play, even more so after last week’s game was postponed”.

“Our overall performance was good, although we were a little afraid to open up, once we scored our first and we wanted to protect ourselves at the back a little bit too much. And of course, they got a very good equaliser. But we definitely dominated the second half and played some good football in patches”.

Fraser Park will now host Granville, who were thumped 5-0 by Bankstown Berries, in a round 4 clash at Fraser Park on Saturday 31^st March at 7pm...

YOUTH LEAGUE REPORT

Round 2 V Western NSW Mariners

After the 1st round was washed out we finally got our season on the way

Eventhough it was probably the hardest fixture V Western Mariners (Old Bathurst).

The nights are cold, but we had brilliant sunshine.

Under 13's Drew 3-3

Started well and were leading 1-0 at the break. We must have put something in the

Water, because Mariners scored 3 quick goals to take control of the match. Mariners played

Very well in the second half and we were rarely in the match.

However, the never say die attitude came to the rescue with 2 goals in the last 4 minutes

Rescuing a point. Alex Small scored all 3 goals in an excellent display of finishing.

Under 14's Lost 0-1

This team has some poor results in trials. They have worked hard in the past 2 weeks and the

Performance was much improved against a solid team.

After conceding an early goal the boys pushed forward for an equaliser but it never came. The

Fighting qualities demonstrated was pleasing and if they continue to work hard and improve, the

Results will come.

Under 15's Won 1-0

This was a hard fought contest with Fraser battling hard. The referee ins this game was not the best

With several decisions leaving both teams confused. This team played without its regular keeper which resulted

The team controlled the game against a very direct team that relied on set pieces for their scoring opportunities.

Great result with backs to wall.

Under 16's Won 3-2

This team controlled the game for majority of the 70 minutes and should have won by greater margin.

Played some excellent possession football and a few lapses allowed the opposition to get back into the match.

This team also had a few players out injured/sick and when at full strength will be even more dominant.

Under 18's Won 1-0

Mariners were the age champions last season and it was always going to be a difficult match. The team played

Some excellent football and dominated the 2nd half in particular and should have been 2-3 goals ahead.

Mariners threw everything in the last 5 minutes and almost scored which would have been a cruel equaliser.

This team continues to improve every week and is starting to play the type of football the coach expects.

Summary: 10 points towards the club championship was far more than we expected based on last year's results. Very

Difficult place to win as Berries found out the previous week when they lost all the games.

Well done to all teams.

European Football Excellence comes to Fraser Park FC

Never in its 50 + years of participation in NSW Football, has Fraser Park football been stronger at the grass root level.

With a growing number of teams in the local association (Canterbury District FA) for boys and girls of ages 5 to 18,as well as consolidating its place in the NSW Super Youth League for boys aged between 13 and 18. Fraser Park has this year launched itsFootball Academy.

The Academy is headed by Andrew Pacholski, a former player at the club who has completed his tertiary studies in sports management.

Andrew is joined by Albin Mikulski, a noted European coach from Poland, with a UEFA professional coaching licence, who has also coached at the highest levels in Europe and Australia during the days of the old National Soccer League (NSL).

Andrew and Albin have a philosophy which aims to develop boys and girls up to the age of 12, and to focus on the technical and mental skills required for these youngsters to progress into the youth league ranks at age 13.

With Albin's background as a decorated player in Poland, where he represented Poland at the Senior, U/21 and Olympic levels, as well as gaining various championship honours, Andrew's task to launch the Acamedy and discover the players of tomorrow, is now well on target with numerous promising young players already signed on.

As Andrew puts it " the philosophy at the Academy is to prepare young players in order to facilitate their transition from Association level up to Youth League. This preparation means focus on the technical, physical and mental preparation of players".

Which means that players at Fraser Park's academy can expect to gain greater technical ability, along with development of core strength as well as other key development areas such as balance on the ball and off the ball.

But above all, it remains fun to learn and play football.

The Academy will continue to work closely with the major local authorities, headed by FFA and FNSW, to ensure guidelines in player developed and complied with.

So for all young players out there in Association teams who aspire to step up to the ranks of Youth League in future years, now is the time to contact Andrew at Fraser Park and start your football development....

Over the past few months we, together with the SPCC board have been in negotiations with KIKOFF SOCCER CENTRES and we have now formed a partnership to redevelop our existing tennis / futsal courts and build a state of the art all weather football complex. This will bring long term benefits to our club and the local community for generations to come. Our club will the one of the first in the country able to boast its own state of the art / FIFA approved all weather playing surface. With construction due to commence in the comming month subject to council approval, the partnership aims to have the centre open for business by mid to late April 2012. Welcome to Season 2012.

The official start is now only weeks away, and Fraser Park is looking ahead with optimism that season 2012 will not be just another desperate battle to avoid relegation. A positive sign is that coach David Perkovic is backing up to guide the team from where he left off in 2011.

The hard work commenced in November, when the squad assembled for the initial meet and greet and setting of objectives for the season ahead. This was also around the time that David took off to Spain to spend 2-3 weeks in Spain to attend various coaching seminars. It was here that David was able to rub shoulders with peers from elite Spanish clubs such as Barcelona, Vila Real and Espanol. Invaluable experience which will assist David over the 2012 winter Super League.

David already sees some of the potential in the 2012 squad which perhaps has been lacking in previous seasons. This includes greater depth in key positions via a few key signings as well as a stronger U20 squad, which will hopefully bring more competition for first team places. Only time will tell.

As David puts is “ Our 3 key goals for 2012 will be to improve on our overall standing in 2011, remain competitive, and become more consistent with our results”. Which should go a long way to satisfying the long suffering fans at Fraser Park, who have become accustomed to the final month of the competition being a battle of survival. Perhaps 2012 is the year that Fraser Park battles for a place in the top 5 instead.

Under David, the team will continue to evolve under a simple philosophy:

1) Encourage players to aim to achieve targets, and not just turn up to play

2) Move on from a team that plays to just survive each year, by playing to avoid relegation.

3) Change player’s attitudes to respect the simple principles of the game, by giving 100% commitment to the goals of the team.

When asked about the likely standout players in season 2012, David found it hard to go past Danny Wilson who struggled in 2011 due to injury. If fit, Danny will have a bumper season. Paulo Oliveira was also singled out as a likely contender for another special season. Paulo remains a firm favourite with the Fraser Park faithful, given his ability to produce that something special in the big games. And in keeping with the tradition at Fraser Park of fielding great keepers, Michael Frost joins Fraser Park after recent stints with Apia and Sydney University.

David believes that 2012 will be a more openly contested season in Super League than in 2011. The benchmark is set to rise with strong squads expected to be fielded by the likes of Bankstown Lions and Berries, with Macarthur Rams expected to be the bolter for a semi-final place.

But success can only be achieved with the support of the Fraser Park fans. David and the Fraser Park Football Committee are appealing to the fans to support their team in 2012, especially during home games at “Fortress Fraser”.

Waratah Cup to go ahead in 2012

Football NSW’s historic Waratah Cup will again take centre stage for 2012 as senior men’s teams from the NSW Premier League, Super League, State League One, State League Two as well as local association team’s battle for the coveted trophy which was taken out in 2011 by Manly United who defeated State League One side Mounties Wanderers 4-0.

2011 saw a record broken with 88 teams from across all competitions enter Football NSW’s ‘FA Cup’ style tournament.

Football NSW CEO Eddie Moore is eagerly anticipating the commencement of the Waratah Cup in late March.

“It’s a fantastic Cup competition that gives any club the chance to lift up the trophy against quality opposition across all leagues.

“We had a great 2011 Waratah Cup campaign which saw a number of surprise packets that added the ‘fairy tale’ theme to the script – 2012 will be even better as teams will have the chance to compete for the honour of being part of the Waratah Cup Final in what will be a fantastic Cup competition.”

The Preliminary Round will commence on Wednesday 28^th of March 2012 with the Cup Final scheduled for Sunday 8^th of July 2012.

Football Federation Australia recently announced that plans to stage the inaugural FFA Cup for 2012 has been put on hold after the FFA Board met to discuss the introduction of the National Cup competition.

The FFA Board determined that before the introduction of the FFA Cup can proceed, its financial underpinnings must be set in place.

Strong interest had been expressed from prospective commercial and broadcast partners however FFA stated that it is not yet in a position to formalise these arrangements.

The outcome is consistent with the briefings provided to State Member Federations throughout this year.

FFA Chief Executive Officer Ben Buckley acknowledged the hard work and efforts of all State Member Federations involved and noted that plans were still in place of making the FFA Cup a reality.

“I would like to take this opportunity to thank Football NSW for the strong enthusiasm and spirit of collaboration brought to the planning for this unique competition over the past year,” said Mr Buckley.

“We look forward to continuing to work with all the Member Federations across Australia to bring this exciting event to life for the benefit of the entire Australian football community.”
