NSW Super League - Round 14

Fraser Park 1 v Granville Rage 0

On rather "warm" winter night at Fraser Park, the home team continued their steady climb away from the bottom of the ladder with a strong win over another top 4 team in Granville Rage.

In a very similar match to the round 3 clash that saw no fewer than 3 Fraser Park players hospitalised, the home team displayed a steely resolve and managed to keep the Rage to a few half-chances that hardly troubled Ivan in the Fraser Park goals.

The same cannot be said at the other end, where Fraser Park squandered two glorious chances in the first 30 minutes. First by Leigh Gunn who blasted wide from 10 yards. Leigh went on to play an important role up front with some deft touches, releasing the men around him.

And it was such a move on the 30th minute that resulted in the young dynamo at right back, Yuya Tamari, pushing forward in another lightning raid and found himself alone in the Granville Rage long enough to pull the trigger with his left foot. The shot left the Rage keeper flat footed and with no chance of blocking the low drive into the bottom corner of the net.

From here Granville surprised nobody at the ground as they tried valiantly with mixed tactics to unsettle the Fraser Park boys. But this time around, Fraser Park had come prepared for the inevitable "rumble in the jungle" and stood up to all challenges that were thrown their way.

Danny Wilson came on for the last fifteen minutes and immediately found himself with a great opportunity to wrap-up the match fro Fraser, but for a fine save from the Rage keeper.

This match also had an extra special flavour for new Fraser Park coach David Perkovic, who left Granville one month ago to take over at Fraser Park.

And as David put it after the match " it had the feel of a local derby, with some strong challenges and fiery encounters".

David acknowledged that the season is just past the half way mark and there is still a lot of football until the last game of the season, at home to Dulwich Hill.

Standout performance once again from Yuya Tamari, who continues to draw admiration from the Fraser Park faithful. A great winning goal backed up with some delightful overlapping runs up the right side, proved to be an absolute thorn for the Granville boys.

Fraser Park are away to Northern Tigers next weekend. And it could well be another giant killing performance from the Marrickville boys.
